Fishing Score Criteria
Our fishing quality score is calculated based on multiple factors that influence fish behavior and feeding patterns. The score ranges from 1 (poor) to 5 (excellent), and helps you determine the best times to go fishing.
Score Interpretation
Excellent (5/5)
Prime fishing conditions. Fish are likely to be very active with high feeding activity.
Good (4/5)
Very favorable conditions. Good chance of successful fishing with active fish.
Average (3/5)
Moderate fishing conditions. Some fish activity can be expected.
Fair (2/5)
Less than ideal conditions. Fish may be less active, requiring more patience.
Poor (1/5)
Challenging fishing conditions. Fish activity is likely to be minimal.
Scoring Factors
Tide Movement
Fish are generally more active during tide changes. Moving water often stimulates feeding behavior.
- Active tide change (rising or falling steadily): +1 point
- Slack tide (high or low with minimal movement): +0 points
Moon Phase
The moon's phase affects tidal movement and fish behavior. Larger tide ranges often increase feeding opportunities.
- Full moon or new moon (stronger tides): +1 point
- Quarter moons (moderate tides): +0.5 points
- Other moon phases: +0 points
Time of Day
Many fish species are more active during dawn and dusk (the "golden hours").
- Dawn/dusk (within 1 hour of sunrise/sunset): +1 point
- Early morning/late afternoon: +0.5 points
- Midday: +0 points
Tide Coefficient
The tide coefficient indicates the amplitude of the tide. Higher coefficients represent larger differences between high and low tides.
- Spring tides (coefficient ≥ 90): +1 point
- Moderate tides (coefficient 70-89): +0.75 points
- Average tides (coefficient 50-69): +0.5 points
- Neap tides (coefficient < 50): +0.25 points
Seasonal Factors
Each season has different fishing conditions based on water temperature and fish spawning cycles.
- Optimal season for local species: +1 point
- Transition seasons: +0.5 points
- Off-season: +0 points
How We Calculate the Final Score
The final fishing quality score is calculated by adding up the points from each factor and then normalizing to a 1-5 scale. This provides a quick assessment of overall fishing conditions for any given time.
Remember that fishing quality predictions are guidelines. Local knowledge, weather changes, and specific fish species behavior can all impact actual fishing success.
